بنى الموارنة كنيستهم الأولى في معراب على أنقاض هيكل رومانيّ وثنيّ. خُرّبت هذه الكنيسة الأولى مع حملة المماليك على كسروان سنة ١٣٠٥. أعاد أبناء البلدة بناء الكنيسة على إسم ما باسيليوس وغريغوريوس، وأخذت شكلها الحاليّ سنة ١٨٨٥. في هذه الكنيسة يرقد على رجاء القيامة المطران بولس فؤاد نعيم تابت (١٩٢٩-٢٠٠٩) وهو أوّل سفير بابويّ مارونيّ لبنانيّ.


The first church was built by the Maronites over a roman pagan temple. The church was destroyed during the Mamluk’s campaign on Keserwan in 1305. After their return, the villagers reconstructed the church and it was consecrated to Sts Basil and Gregory. It took its final shape in 1885. The church is the final resting place of Bishop Paul Fouad Naim Tabet (1929-2009), the first Lebanese Maronite Papal nuncio

Mar Mikhael Bnabil, Lebanon

دير مار ميخائيل – بنابيل

يعود الدّير للقرن السابع عشر. هو وَقف من الشيخ بو عقل هارون وأولاده. كان بتصرُّف الرهبانيَّة اللبنانيَّة سنة ١٧١٩، وفي سنة ١٧٤٠، تسلَّمه الرهبان الأنطونيُّون، فتسلَّم الدير المطران يواصاف البسكنتاوي، وباشر تجديد بنائه سنة ١٧٥٢، وخصَّصه لسكنى الراهبات العابدات، لكنَّه عاد فسلَّمه إلى الرهبانيَّة اللبنانيَّة، وتسلَّم المطران بدلًا منه دير مار ساسين بسكنتا، ونقل إليه الراهبات. أمَّا البناء وتجديده فقد شَهد عدَّة مراحل. الكنيسة الحاليّة بُنيت سنة ١٨٥٥. تَجدر الإشارة على أنَّ دير بنابيل قد تعرَّض لنكباتٍ عديدةٍ على غرار باقي الأديار، فقد نهبته العساكر المصريَّة سنة ١٨٤٠. كذلك لم يسلم من الأذى أثناء أحداث ١٨٦٠. لكنَّ الرهبانيَّة كانت تهبُّ كلَّ مرَّة إلى ترميمه. وقد جدَّدت في بناء الدير، وأحدثت فيه إصلاحات عدَّة سنة ١٩٠١. أمَّا بناؤه الحاليّ فيعود إلى سنة ١٩٤٧.

The Monastery of St. Michael - Bnabil

The monastery dates back to the 17th century. It was originally donated by Sheikh Bou Akl Haroun and his sons. In 1719, the monastery was given to the Beledite order. However, in 1740, it was transferred to the Antonine Fathers. Later on, in 1752, Bishop Youwassaf el Beskentawi took over and converted the monastery into a nunnery. Subsequently, the bishop returned it to the Beledites and acquired the Monastery of St. Sassine in Baskinta for his nuns. Over the years, the monastery underwent several restorations. The construction of the church took place in 1855. Unfortunately, the building suffered damage during the presence of the Egyptian army in 1840 and the war of 1860. It was eventually restored in 1901 and assumed its final form in 1943.

Saint Michael Church, Lebanon

كنيسة مار ميخائيل - بكفيّا

سنة ١٥٩٠ حدث خلاف بين البطريرك سركيس الرزّي والمطران أنطون الجميّل الذي منعه من زيارة بكفيّا، فاستاء العديد من آل الجميّل جرّاء هذا الخلاف وناصروا البطريرك، ممّا دفعهم لبناء كنيسة جديدة سنة ١٥٩٢ بسعي الخوري عيسى الخرّاط مكرّسة لمار ميخائيل. توسّعت الكنيسة عدّة مرّات أهمّها سنة ١٨٨٧ حين أعاد تكريسها المطران نعمة الله سلوان، وبعد الحرب الأهليّة. تضمّ الكنيسة قبّة نيوغوطيّة يعلوها تمثال مار ميخائيل. لوحة مار ميخائيل هي للمستشرق وليم الألمانيّ تعود لسنة ١٨٣٩، أمّ لوحة العذراء فهي من رسم حبيب خوري سنة ٢٠٠٦.

The church of St Michael - Bikfaya

In 1590 a conflict happened between Patriarch Sarkis el Rezzi and bishop Antoun Gemayel who forbade him from visiting Bikfaya. Because of this mishap, many supporters of the patriarch from the Gemayel clan decided with father Issa Kharrat to build a church dedicated to St Michael in 1592. The church was enlarged and renovated on several occasions, the most important are 1887 when it was rededicated by bishop Nematullah Salean and after the Lebanese Civil War. The church holds a neo gothic bell tower. St Michael’s painting is the work of a german orientalist called William and dates back to 1839. The painting of the Madonna is painted by Habib Khoury in 2006.
